Gleneagles is the complete Scottish golf estate: three eighteens, one of Europe’s great country-house hotels, and a Perthshire setting that looks staged even in the rain. It is also simpler to buy than its reputation suggests. Here is how the breaks actually price, course by course.

Three courses, three different arguments

The PGA Centenary is the headline act, the Jack Nicklaus design that staged the 2014 Ryder Cup and the 2019 Solheim Cup, set up so an ordinary golfer can play the same closing stretch the professionals did. The King’s is the connoisseur’s pick, James Braid’s moorland masterpiece of plunging tee shots and punchbowl greens. The Queen’s, also Braid’s work, is shorter, prettier and nobody’s idea of a pushover.

Play all three across a long weekend and you have covered a century of Scottish design in one estate, without moving your bags once.

Staying at the hotel

The point of Gleneagles is staying at the Gleneagles Hotel itself: the five-star grande dame on its own 850-acre estate, with the courses, the spa and some of Scotland’s best restaurants on the property. Our stay-and-play ladder runs from three nights bed and breakfast with two rounds at £600 (≈ €705) (≈ $805) (≈ CA$1,125) (≈ AU$1,145) (≈ NZ$1,375) (≈ CHF 645) (≈ kr 7,795) (≈ kr 7,805) (≈ kr 5,265) per person, through four nights and three rounds at £785 (≈ €915) (≈ $1,045) (≈ CA$1,475) (≈ AU$1,505) (≈ NZ$1,795) (≈ CHF 845) (≈ kr 10,195) (≈ kr 10,205) (≈ kr 6,895), five nights and four rounds at £970 (≈ €1,135) (≈ $1,295) (≈ CA$1,825) (≈ AU$1,855) (≈ NZ$2,225) (≈ CHF 1,055) (≈ kr 12,605) (≈ kr 12,615) (≈ kr 8,515), to a full week with five rounds at £1,305 (≈ €1,535) (≈ $1,745) (≈ CA$2,455) (≈ AU$2,505) (≈ NZ$2,995) (≈ CHF 1,415) (≈ kr 16,955) (≈ kr 16,975) (≈ kr 11,465) per person.

Those prices are per person with golf arranged across the three courses; tell us which eighteens matter most and we set the order.

When to go

May to September is the classic window, with long Perthshire evenings and the courses at full speed. April and October trade a little weather for a lot of value and quieter tee sheets. Winter golf continues on the estate, but the Highlands-edge setting means we would only build a winter trip around a golfer who genuinely does not mind their bobble hat.

Getting there

Gleneagles sits in Perthshire roughly an hour’s drive from both Edinburgh and Glasgow airports, and the estate even has its own railway station on the Glasgow to Perth line. We arrange transfers or a hire car depending on whether you plan to leave the estate at all; most guests do not. Ground packages include the golf and the stay; flights, where we add them, are ATOL protected. More Scottish options are on our UK golf breaks page.

Frequently asked questions

Can visitors play the Ryder Cup course at Gleneagles?

Yes. The PGA Centenary is open to visiting golfers and to hotel guests, and our packages build tee times across it and the two Braid courses. It remains one of the few Ryder Cup venues where an ordinary golfer can play the full championship routing.

Which is the best course at Gleneagles?

Golfers argue about it in the bar, which is the sign of a good estate. The PGA Centenary carries the Ryder Cup history, but many low handicappers rate the King’s as the finest moorland course in Scotland. Play both and settle it yourself; the Queen’s makes the ideal opening round.

When is the best time for a Gleneagles break?

May to September for the full experience, with June and September the sweet spots for course condition and daylight. Spring and autumn bring softer rates on the same courses and the same hotel.

Do I need a handicap certificate to play at Gleneagles?

No formal certificate is demanded for the resort courses, but the courses are championship tests and a sensible standard of play and pace is expected. If your group mixes abilities, tell us and we will order the courses so everyone enjoys the week.
