A Buddies’ Golf Getaway to England
England By The Golf Planet Holidays Team · Golf-travel specialists since 1981 · Published 1 June 2026 At a glance Where should a group of 4-8 golfing mates go in England? You know how the annual trip usually goes. Someone starts a group chat in January, three of you commit, two go quiet, and by the time anyone actually books a tee time half the season’s gone. The idea is always the same and always brilliant: get four to eight of you together, play a few proper courses, settle the order of merit over a pint, and come home with a year’s worth of stories. The bit that kills it is the admin.
That’s the bit we take off your hands. Golf Planet Holidays has been arranging tailor-made golf trips since 1981, and a buddies’ getaway to England is one of the easiest things we do. You pick the courses and the weekend; we line up the tee times, the rooms and everything in between. Packages start from £175 per person, and one of you sends one enquiry instead of herding eight grown men around a spreadsheet.
The courses that make the trip worth talking about
A mates’ trip lives or dies on the golf, so this is where England earns its place. The North West coast is a links run you’ll still be arguing about years later. Royal Liverpool (Hoylake) is the headline — an Open Championship venue, the real thing, the kind of round where even the 24-handicapper in your group goes quiet on the first tee. String it together with Wallasey Golf Club, West Lancashire Golf Club, Caldy Golf Club on the Wirral and Heswall Golf Club, and you’ve got a multi-day rota of firm fairways, sea wind and short par-fours that reward the brave and punish the cocky. Wirral and Lancashire courses sit close enough together that you’re never spending the day in the car — you play, you eat, you play again.
It’s the sort of itinerary that’s a faff to assemble yourself: five separate pro shops, five tee-sheet conversations, all needing to slot around each other for a group of eight. We do that part. You just turn up and tee off in the order we’ve set.
Where to base the group
For a buddies’ trip you want a base that can take a bit of noise and keep everyone under one roof. Carden Park Hotel in Cheshire is built for exactly this — a resort with its own golf on site and rooms enough to keep the whole group together, well placed for the Cheshire and Wirral courses. If you’d rather have the golf and the beds in one spot and barely touch the car, Forest Pines Spa & Golf Resort in Lincolnshire and Dale Hill Hotel & Golf Club in East Sussex both keep it simple: play, eat, repeat, no transfers to think about.
Which base is right depends on your group — how far you want to roam, whether the priority is ticking off famous links or just an easy weekend with mates. Tell us how many of you there are and what you’re after, and we’ll match the base to the golf rather than the other way round.
Where our specialists would stay in England
One enquiry, zero hassle, money you can trust
Here’s the part that makes the difference when there are eight of you and one organiser. There’s no fixed package to squeeze your group into and no online cart to wrestle. You send one enquiry with your rough dates and headcount, and we build the trip around it — venues, rounds, rooms and running order — then come back with a single price in pounds. From £175 per person, scaled to what your group actually wants.
And because it’s a real trip with real money on the line, we do it properly: Golf Planet Holidays is ATOL Protected, and your payment is held in trust with PTS until you’ve travelled — so the lad collecting everyone’s share isn’t carrying any risk. If your group fancies it, we can also arrange a hosted, escorted set-up where someone handles the day-to-day logistics on the ground, leaving you free to concentrate on the only league table that matters.

Frequently asked questions
How big a group can you organise for?
A buddies’ trip of four to eight is right in our wheelhouse — easy to keep together in one hotel and to slot across multiple tee sheets. We can go larger too; just tell us the number when you enquire and we’ll build the trip around it.
What's included in the from-£175 price?
It’s an enquiry-based starting point, not a fixed bundle. The final figure is built around your group size, chosen venues, number of rounds and travel dates, then quoted as one clear price in GBP. Send us your dates and headcount and we’ll itemise exactly what’s covered.
Is my group's money protected?
Yes. Golf Planet Holidays has been a tailor-made golf travel specialist since 1981 and is ATOL Protected. Your money is held in trust with PTS until you have travelled, so whoever in your group collects and pays is never exposed.
Can you arrange flights or a hosted group trip?
For most England trips groups self-drive between the courses, but we can add travel arrangements where it helps — useful if some of your mates are flying in from further afield, including from the US. We can also set up a hosted, escorted format where the logistics are handled for you on the ground.
Come and play with us
Wherever you're travelling from, you're welcome on a Golf Planet hosted tour — a small group, a host with you from the first tee to the last, and every round, transfer and dinner taken care of. You just bring the clubs.
