Beyond the golf

Life away from the course at Hanbury Manor Marriott Hotel and Country Club

Quiet countryside estate

Hanbury Manor is a country estate first, so evenings tend to start on site. There is one pub within walking distance, and the village of Thundridge sits about a kilometre away. Go a little further and the choice opens right up: within a short drive of the hotel there are more than ninety bars, over seventy restaurants and around forty cafes. Non-golfers have Ware Museum and Scott's Grotto a couple of kilometres out, and H2O Rampage Aqua Park closer still if the group skews younger. Beyond that one pub, nothing is walkable, so plan on taxis. Tell us who's coming and we'll match the base to the trip.

Hanbury Manor Marriott Hotel and Country Club: your questions answered

Is Hanbury Manor worth it for a golf break?

Yes, if you want country-house comfort with the golf on site. Hanbury Manor pairs a Jacobean-style manor house in 200 acres of Hertfordshire countryside with a championship 18-hole course designed by Jack Nicklaus II, plus a spa for non-golfing time. If you want variety across the trip, your specialist can add rounds at other courses and arrange the transfers.

How much is a golf break at Hanbury Manor?

Packages start at £395 (≈ €455) (≈ $525) (≈ CA$745) (≈ AU$755) (≈ NZ$895) (≈ CHF 425) (≈ kr 5,055) (≈ kr 5,065) (≈ kr 3,435) per person for two nights bed and breakfast with two rounds of golf. Green fees are built into the price, so there are no surprises at the pro shop. Enquiries are free with no payment or obligation, and your quote arrives by email once a specialist has checked availability for your dates.

Who designed the golf course at Hanbury Manor?

The championship 18-hole course was designed by Jack Nicklaus II and sits within the hotel's 200 acres of Hertfordshire countryside, so you stay and play on the same estate. Green fees are included when you book it as part of a Golf Planet Holidays package, and your specialist arranges the tee times for you.

What are the rooms like at Hanbury Manor?

There are 161 bedrooms, generous in size and well appointed. The rooms in the main manor house carry a supplement, but in our view it is a reasonable one and worth paying for the character of the Jacobean-style building, with its wood-panelled libraries and the Oak Hall for a Champagne cocktail. Tell your specialist if you want a manor room and it will be priced into your quote.

Where is Hanbury Manor?

Hanbury Manor is in the Hertfordshire countryside, just over a kilometre from Thundridge, and sits in 200 acres of its own grounds. It is one of our Southern England venues, which makes it a straightforward choice for a short break without a flight. Your specialist can arrange transfers between the hotel and any courses you play away from the estate.

Why book Hanbury Manor through Golf Planet Holidays?

Because a named golf specialist puts the whole trip together for you: rooms, tee times on the Nicklaus II course and any transfers you need. We have been hand-building golf holidays since 1981, we are rated 4.9 on Google and your booking is PTS protected. Enquiries are free, there is no obligation, and quotes arrive by email.

Frequently asked questions

Golf holidays in United Kingdom. The questions our golfers ask most.

Where should I play in the United Kingdom?

From challenging links to impressive parkland courses, the UK has it all. Tell us your dream golf holiday scenario.

It is easy to get around the United Kingdom?

Yes, getting around the UK for golf is very straightforward. Self-driving is the most popular choice — the motorway network connects major cities and virtually all golf courses have excellent road access. For Scotland, flights from London to Edinburgh or Glasgow take around 90 minutes, or take the scenic East Coast Main Line overnight. In England, most golf regions — Surrey heathland, Kent links, Yorkshire moorland — are within 2-3 hours of London. We include all transfers in our UK packages and can advise on the best travel approach for your group.

Is the United Kingdom good for groups?

Yes. There are plenty of great options if you are going away with your golfing friends.

What about if I am looking for somewhere special in the United Kingdom?

We offer superb hotels all around the United Kingdom, ideal if you wish to combine high levels of comfort with great golf courses.

Are flights included?

Our golf holidays are arranged ground-only — hotel, golf and transfers. You can add flights through us, and those flights are ATOL protected as part of your booking.

How do golf holidays with Golf Planet Holidays work?

Every trip is hand-built. Tell us your group, dates and the destinations you fancy, and we build a personal itinerary — hotel, golf and transfers — around them. There are no fixed packages to squeeze into; we shape the whole break to suit how your group likes to play.
