• Higher handicapsWater turns up again and again, and the dog-legs punish the wrong line, so pack spare balls and swallow your pride on the tee. The consolation is playing surfaces kept in lovely order.
• Serious golfersJudging the distance to the flags is the whole test: greens run slick, the bunkers sit exactly where a mis-club finishes, and the crafty dog-legs keep the driver in the bag more often than you would like.
