Our take
A 16th-century chateau doubles as the clubhouse at Chailly, and the golf laid out in front of it flatters rather than frightens.
- CouplesPlay and stay under the chateau roof and the whole thing feels like a treat: generous fairways, big true greens and under 60 metres of climb between the first tee and the last green.
- Higher handicapsOff the whites the slope is only 129, and the wide fairways forgive a lot. Water bites more often than the gentle look suggests though, and cards tend to wobble at the 9th and 13th.
- SocietiesGenerous landing areas keep a mixed-ability group moving, and the chateau makes the post-round drink feel like an occasion.
