About
If you think of South Africa as a winter sun destination, think again. Base yourself around Durban and KwaZulu Natal to play superb golf courses year round. In addition the abundance of history and wildlife in this area make this an ideal long stay holiday.
Stay on the coast at sparkling Umhlanga, just outside Durban on the Indian Ocean or enjoy the lively city life. Umhlanga is popular with tourists and locals with its excellent beach, great restaurants and individual shops. Staying in the city gives you an opportunity to explore the history of the area.
It’s easy to do a day safari from Durban. For instance, head to Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve. Another popular option is a trip to The Drakensberg Mountain Region, the stunning views and the mindblowing history of this area will stay with you for a long time.
Of course, if you wish to extend these trips with overnight stays we are happy to help.
GREAT GOLF COURSES
The quality of golf courses around Durban seals the deal. Royal Durban Golf Club lies just outside the city. This immaculate course opened in 1892 and, joyfully, has no large trees as the town council did not allow them under the original design. But the prevailing winds and punishing rough make up for this.
Up country Zimbali Golf Club is a different cup of tea. This is a spectacular golf course in the middle of a stunning eco-estate. The last seven holes wend their way through the Zimbali indigenous forest. The environment is number one here so some of the tees are in a tricky position.
As always we are happy to help with transfers or hire cars. As with our vacations we want you to have your ideal Golf Planet holiday.
Our colleague Nigel Burch is based around Cape Town January to mid-March and heads off to different regions during his stay to catch up with colleagues from his 20 years working in the South African golf industry.
Whatever you choose to do. Golf Planet is here to assist.
