About Royal Latem Golf Club
Royal Latem Golf Club is among Europe’s finest golf courses. It's one of the highlights of the strong collection of golf courses around Bruges. The 18 holes are in a parkland surrounded by the gardens of beautiful villas. It's a technical challenge with the bunkers cunningly situated and there are a couple of ponds in nasty places. It was founded in 1909 and the original design by Geo Pannell was remodelled by Fred Hawtree and then some holes were updated by Martin Hawtree in 2013. Eight miles south-west of Gent.

Our take
Founded in 1909 and reworked by the Hawtrees, Royal Latem is flat underfoot but full of cunning bunkers and awkwardly placed ponds, a genuine technical test in the countryside around Bruges.
- Serious golfersThe bunkering is the examination here; it sits precisely on the lazy line, and the ponds punish anything loose. Plot your way round and the flat ground lets you concentrate entirely on the golf.
- Higher handicapsFlat and easily walkable with no forced heroics, but those cunningly placed bunkers will find you more often than you would like. Play conservatively past the ponds and it is a very enjoyable day.
- CouplesOne of Belgium's older clubs, laid out through the gardens of handsome villas, and about as gentle a walk as golf offers. A good choice when the trip is as much about Bruges as the golf.
