Golf Holidays for Couples in Southern England
Southern England By The Golf Planet Holidays Team · Golf-travel specialists since 1981 · Published 1 June 2026 At a glance Is a Southern England golf trip a good idea if only one of us plays? Yes, and it is one of the reasons couples choose this region. Resorts like Old Thorns in Hampshire and […]
Some of the best golf trips are the ones where nobody has to compromise. You picture an unhurried morning, a tee time on a course you have always wanted to play, and your partner choosing how they want to spend the same hours — a long lunch, a spa treatment, a walk through East Sussex woodland, or simply a book and a view. By the time you meet again in the late afternoon, you have both had the day you wanted, and the evening is yours together.
That is exactly the kind of break Southern England does so well, and it is the kind we have been arranging for golfing couples since 1981. With three or four counties’ worth of resort hotels and characterful courses within easy reach of London and the South Coast, a couples’ golf holiday here can start from just £175 per person — close to home, gently romantic, and completely effortless to organise.
Three resorts built for two different days
The art of a couples’ golf break is choosing a base that looks after both of you under one roof, and Southern England gives you three strong options.
Dale Hill Hotel & Golf Club sits in the High Weald of East Sussex with its own two courses on the doorstep — the perfect setup when the golfer wants to walk straight from breakfast to the first tee, and the partner wants countryside, a spa and quiet. The hotel’s elevated position gives you those long Wealden views to come home to.
Hanbury Manor Marriott in Hertfordshire is the polished one: a grand country-house hotel barely north of London, with a championship course, a spa and serious dining. It is the natural pick for a couple who want a little glamour and an easy reach from town.
Old Thorns Hotel & Resort in Hampshire rounds it out, set in beautiful countryside with a resort course, a large spa and several places to eat — generous, leafy and relaxed, with plenty to fill a non-golfer’s day.
The golf, for the one who came to play
The reason East Sussex and the surrounding counties reward a golfer is variety within a short drive. From a Dale Hill base you can build a few days around its own course and then add some of the most characterful golf in the South.
Crowborough Beacon is high heathland with far-reaching views — a course Sir Arthur Conan Doyle once called home ground. Cooden Beach brings you down to the coast for a breezy, links-flavoured round beside the sea. East Sussex National offers two big championship-grade layouts that have hosted professional golf. And Piltdown is a rare heathland gem with no formal bunkers, a genuine throwback that golfers love to tick off.
Tell us how many rounds you want across the trip and we will sequence the tee times so the golf never feels rushed and you are always back in time for the evening.
Where our specialists would stay in Southern England
Effortless to book, and your money is protected
Because we are a tailor-made specialist rather than a fixed-package site, you do not have to assemble any of this yourself. You tell us roughly what you both want — the golf, the spa, the room, the dates — and we shape one itinerary, billed in GBP, with everything handled. It is an enquiry, not a checkout: a short conversation, then a plan made for the two of you.
Every holiday we arrange is ATOL Protected, and your money is held securely in trust with PTS until you have travelled — so the only thing on your mind is the trip itself. If you would prefer to fly in rather than drive, or you are joining us from overseas, we can add flights and advise on the best value routing; and if you would rather travel in company, ask about our hosted and escorted group tours, where the arrangements and the welcome are taken care of from the moment you arrive.

Frequently asked questions
Can you arrange a room and spa for my partner while I'm on the course?
Absolutely — it is one of the things we shape every itinerary around. Old Thorns, Hanbury Manor and Dale Hill all have spa and leisure facilities, so we can book treatments or downtime for your partner that line up with your tee times. You both get the day you want and meet for dinner.
How many courses can we realistically play in a few days?
From a Dale Hill base in East Sussex you have its own course plus Crowborough Beacon, Cooden Beach, East Sussex National and Piltdown all within comfortable reach, so a multi-round break is very doable. We sequence the tee times around your dates and your partner’s plans so nothing feels hurried.
What does the price include and what currency is it in?
Trips start from £175 per person and are billed in GBP. Because each holiday is tailor-made, your final price reflects your chosen hotel, the number of rounds and your travel dates. Tell us what you both want and we will build a single, clear quote — and your money is held in trust with PTS until you travel.
Can you add flights, and do you arrange group trips?
Yes to both. If you would rather fly than drive, or you are travelling from overseas, we can add ATOL-protected flights and advise on the best-value routing. And if you would like to travel as part of a group, ask about our hosted and escorted tours where the golf, transfers and welcome are all taken care of for you.
