We posed this question to the Golf Planet team…Here are their responses:
Nigel, PGA Professional : Durban Country Club
The course I could play every day and enjoy would be Durban Country Club, set alongside the Indian Ocean this great course is a combination of links and sub-tropical parkland.
Rated in the Top 100 in the world you could never get bored with this layout, tropical birds, kingfishers, herons and of course the resident troupes of blue-ball monkeys who venture out on to the fairways.
Great climate, great course
Simon, Manager : The Els Club, Teluk Datai
The best holiday I’ve been on was on the Malaysian Island of Langkawi. The wildlife on the island and the golf course is quite simply sensational. There are Hornbills flying overhead, cheeky monkeys that will jump down out of the forest to try and grab your golf ball and big monitor lizards digging for food.
The golf course is beautiful, fairways meandering through the rainforest and redesigned holes along the Strait of Malacca. It’s a pure joy to play with warm temperatures and a lemon-scented ice cold flannel to cool you down with a refreshing bottle of Tiger beer, just the ticket after your round!
Heather, PR : Buenavista, Tenerife
I’ve been reflecting long and hard on this. It would be easy to pick a course where I scored well, but instead I’ve chosen a course which makes me happy however I play.
Buenavista is a Seve Ballesteros design, at the northern tip of Tenerife. It’s well-run and always in great condition, despite its full exposure to the wind off the Atlantic Ocean and the Tenerife sun. From the very first shot you have to be on your guard. Even with a good drive you face a tricky second shot over water with the only safe landing spot on the green or beyond.
The second nine takes you along the cliff edge. Great shots win applause from walkers on the public path between the course and the sea. Luckily they wander off very politely if you hit a duff. There’s more water before the 18th green. If you get around with the same ball, that’s a victory right there.
We tend to stay at the Melia Hacienda del Conde next door but it’s only a 90 minute drive from the south of the island if you prefer.
Just writing about this puts a smile on my face!
