About Durban Country Club
Durban Country Club golf course overlooks the Blue Lagoon estuary and the Indian Ocean. This superb course has hosted the South African Open 17 times, including the centenary SA Open in 2010, more than any other club in South Africa.
The third hole is a particular favourite, rated at the best of its kind in the world. A long par five you play down the narrow fairway lined with dense bush with a tricky bunker on the left to ambush you.
- Clubhouse restaurant
- Third hole rated the best in the world
- Buggies
- Golf courses within 30 minutes include Beachwood, Zimbali and Royal Durban
Our take
No club in South Africa has staged the SA Open more often than Durban Country Club, and one round over its bush-lined fairways above the Blue Lagoon tells you why.
- Serious golfersSeventeen SA Opens set the benchmark, and the third, a long, narrow par five squeezed by dense bush with a bunker lurking left, is rated among the best of its kind anywhere; it plays like it too.
- Higher handicapsGentle underfoot, with under 30 metres of climb across the whole round, but the bush lining the fairways gives nothing back; take whatever club finds grass and treat the day as the occasion it is.
- Buddy tripsThis is the round your group will still be talking about at dinner, the SA Open course above the Blue Lagoon estuary with the Indian Ocean beyond, and the clubhouse restaurant handles the aftermath properly.
