For all its Provence prettiness, Saint Endreol is a 7,000-yard examination through proper hills, with water waiting far more often than the postcard lets on.

• Serious golfersAt 7,000 yards over rising ground it is a full-length test, and the water never really leaves you alone. The 9th and 14th are the two that wreck cards; escape both with your score intact and the round is on.
• Higher handicapsTake the buggy without a second thought; there is over 170 metres of climb in the round and nobody enjoys that on foot in summer. Pack spare balls, because the water finds mid and high handicaps first.
• CouplesOne of the prettiest corners of the south of France we send golfers to, within half an hour of our Provence hotels and 45 minutes of Cannes, so the non-playing half of the pair is never short of a plan.
