About Reims-Champagne Golf Club
Created by Tom Simpson in 1928, Golf de Reims Champagne was originally a nine-hole course. Micheal Fenn extended the course to 18 holes in 1973. Over the last few years the course and clubhouse have been transformed as Reims-Champagne marches towards its centenary.
The club is owned by a group of Champagne producers and, as you would expect, bubbly is on tap in the clubhouse. The course is flat with quite tricky woodland measuring about 6700 yards off the whites. The Slope Rating is 134 with a mix of quite long par fours and some par fives where you could get a birdie. It is just a short drive from Reims.

Our take
Owned by a syndicate of champagne producers, Reims-Champagne pairs Tom Simpson's original holes with bubbly on tap in the clubhouse.
- Serious golfersTom Simpson laid out the first nine in 1928 and the class still shows. At 6,700 yards off the back with woodland tight to the play, the 3rd and 6th sort out early who has brought a game.
- SocietiesA strong society day out in this region: an old club with real history, a course everyone can get round, and champagne afterwards from the people who own the place.
- Higher handicapsKeep the tee shot in play and the flat fairways are friendly; spray it and the trees collect. The walk is moderate rather than hard, so trolleys are fine for most.
Tell us who’s coming and how you like to play, and we’ll shape the right trip around you.
What you are actually facing
The walk. Moderate. 106 metres of climb over the round.
The wind. The wind is usually south-westerly, averaging 12 km/h, gusting to 42. It is the club selection that catches people out, not the yardage.
The water. 10 hazards in play. Bring a few more balls than you think you need.
The design. Tom Simpson (extended to 18 by Michael Fenn).
The holes that will cost you. The 3rd, the 6th and the 14th. The 6th is the one you will be talking about afterwards.
