About L’Ailette Golf Club
Golf de l’Ailette is possibly the best designed course in the Champagne region and it’s got several lovely holes with a couple of crackers on the back nine. With most of the course cut through woodland, l’Ailette is an enjoyable course. It’s flat too with the exception of the four open holes around the turn. Measuring 6800 off the back tees these days and with a par of 71, it can prove to be a beast if you want to play it off the tips but it’s far more reasonable off the yellows. After all, you are all on holiday!
Our take
For design quality l'Ailette is arguably the pick of the Champagne region, with its best holes saved for the back nine.
- Serious golfersOff the tips it runs to 6,800 yards for a par of just 71, a genuine examination through the trees. The 8th and 16th do most of the damage to good cards, so plan both before you tee off.
- Higher handicapsMove well forward and it becomes a different course, still handsome and perfectly manageable. The walking is flat almost throughout, with just the four open holes around the turn changing the rhythm.
- Buddy tripsBuilt for a match, this one, with a couple of crackers coming late and a 16th that settles plenty of games. Easy to pair with Reims or Laon for a proper weekend.

The walk. Flat, and an easy walk — 89 metres of climb over the round.
The wind. The wind is usually south-westerly, averaging 11 km/h, gusting to 42. It is the club selection that catches people out, not the yardage.
