About Esterel Golf Club
Esterel golf club is almost next door to Valescure golf club and hotel. Both are nice holiday layouts bordered by residences but while Valescure is quite luxuriant with space and woodland, Esterel is relatively urban and less manicured. However, it’s good fun, inexpensive and convenient for several of our hotels. Play golf in the morning and head off for lunch on the beach. The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Snr and opened in 1989. It is shaped well and the parasol pine trees add a touch of class. It’s easy walking and only 6100 yards off the tips, so you’ll have plenty of energy and time left for your afternoon agenda.

Our take
Nobody books Esterel for the pedigree alone; you book it because it is cheap, cheerful and close enough to the hotels to play the morning and lunch on the beach.
- Serious golfersSet your expectations right: this is Trent Jones Senior in holiday mode, less manicured than Valescure next door and only 6,100 yards. Even so, water crowds enough holes to keep you honest.
- Higher handicapsThe length is friendly but the water is not, and the 3rd and 10th collect more dropped shots than anywhere else. There is also more climb in the walk than the scorecard suggests.
- Buddy tripsIdeal as the budget round of the trip: play early, argue over lunch by the sea, and still have the afternoon free. At these green fees nobody minds a scruffy edge or two.
