About Beachwood Country Club
The Beachwood course is a hidden gem offering a superb challenge for golfers who enjoys links golf.
The sixth and ninth fairways both have a dog-leg left to consider with the remainder of the fairways a straight layout. There are 41 bunkers around the greens, and 33 fairway bunkers waiting for wayward shots. Most fairways are lined with trees making for an interesting challenge. Four of the holes feature beautiful water hazards.
Taken over by its neighbour Durban Country Club 30 years ago, the course is maintained with the same diligence and care.

Our take
Seventy-four bunkers do the policing at Beachwood, scattered across a level, tree-lined links on the Durban coast.
- Serious golfersThe dog-legs at the sixth and ninth want shape off the tee, and with 33 fairway bunkers sitting exactly where a good drive would like to finish, driver is not the automatic play.
- Higher handicapsBarely 30 metres of climb all round makes it an easy walk, but 41 greenside bunkers make short-siding yourself expensive, and cards here tend to come unstuck at the 10th and the 14th.
- Buddy tripsPair it with Durban Country Club for a proper 36-hole Durban day; Beachwood is the quieter, sandier examination, and with water in play on four holes the money matches get a late twist.

What you are actually facing
The walk. Flat, and an easy walk — 29 metres of climb over the round.
The wind. The wind is usually south-westerly, averaging 13 km/h, gusting to 46. It is the club selection that catches people out, not the yardage.
The water. 3 hazards in play. Bring a few more balls than you think you need.
The design. Gary Player (1990s redesign).
