• Serious golfersThe dog-legs at the sixth and ninth want shape off the tee, and with 33 fairway bunkers sitting exactly where a good drive would like to finish, driver is not the automatic play.
• Higher handicapsBarely 30 metres of climb all round makes it an easy walk, but 41 greenside bunkers make short-siding yourself expensive, and cards here tend to come unstuck at the 10th and the 14th.
• Buddy tripsPair it with Durban Country Club for a proper 36-hole Durban day; Beachwood is the quieter, sandier examination, and with water in play on four holes the money matches get a late twist.
