About Château de Raray Golf Club
With 18 holes cut through an ancient forest Chateau de Raray Golf Club at Senlis is a treat. The start is straightforward but you soon enter the woods and the holes get cleverer and the course even more attractive. There are some fabulous par fives and long par-threes. Colin Montgomerie describes the greens as the truest in France, For the afternoon round, there’s a nine hole par 35 and a pitch and putt to tighten up your short game. The clubhouse is a fairytale chateau. It's a great course to play on your way to Chantilly or on your way back to the Eurotunnel.

Our take
Cut through ancient forest near Senlis, Chateau de Raray starts you off gently then gets cleverer and prettier the deeper into the woods you go.
- Serious golfersColin Montgomerie called these the truest greens in France, and the putting alone justifies the trip; the long par threes ask real questions and the 17th catches good rounds late.
- Higher handicapsBarely 50 metres of climb all round and just one water hazard on the whole course, so the trouble is trees rather than carries; the straightforward start lets you settle before the forest closes in.
- Buddy tripsThe nine-hole par 35 and the pitch and putt make a proper afternoon of it after the main round, which is ideal for settling the morning's debts.

What you are actually facing
The walk. Flat, and an easy walk — 48 metres of climb over the round.
The wind. The wind is usually south-westerly, averaging 11 km/h, gusting to 38. It is the club selection that catches people out, not the yardage.
The water. 1 hazard in play. Bring a few more balls than you think you need.
