Here is a comparison every American golfer should run before booking. A single round on the Pebble Beach Golf Links runs around $695 in green fees — and to play it you generally need to stay at the resort, where rooms start well north of $1,000 a night. One round, one night: comfortably over $1,700.

A seven-night, multi-round tailor-made golf holiday in the Algarve starts from £259 per person — roughly $350 — including your hotel, your green fees across several championship courses, and your airport transfers.
