Organising a society golf trip is one of the most thankless jobs in the club. You chase deposits, juggle tee sheets, field the moans about room allocations, and somehow end up the only person who hasn’t actually enjoyed the trip. The whole point of bringing in a specialist is to hand that weight over — so that you, the organiser, can turn up and play.
Golf Planet Holidays has been arranging tailor-made golf travel for UK groups since 1981. For a society of 12 to 24 players, the Eastern Algarve is one of the most rewarding corners of the Algarve to point you at: quiet, scenic, properly good golf, and short transfers from a single comfortable base near Tavira. Trips start from £255 per person, and we shape every one around your group rather than a fixed package.
Why the Eastern Algarve suits a society
The western Algarve gets the crowds; the eastern end keeps the character. Around Tavira you get rolling, unhurried courses, fewer tour buses on the first tee, and a run of layouts close enough together that your society can play a different course every day without long coach rides eating into the bar time.
The golf has real range. Monte Rei Golf & Country Club, the Jack Nicklaus signature course near Tavira, is regularly rated the best in Portugal — a genuine bucket-list round to anchor the trip around. Quinta da Ria and its sister Quinta de Cima give you two contrasting championship layouts on one estate, ideal for a head-to-head day across the group. Benamor Golf in Tavira is the friendly, characterful round that suits mixed-handicap societies, while Castro Marim and Quinta do Vale round out the rota with more shot-making variety. That is six courses to choose from — more than enough to keep a week fresh and a long weekend full.
Where your society stays
For a group, a single well-placed base beats hopping between hotels. The AP Cabanas Beach & Nature Hotel near Tavira gives your society a relaxed, modern base close to the beach, with the room and the communal space a party of 12 to 24 needs after a day on the course — somewhere to gather for the day’s results and the next morning’s tee times. Closer to the courses themselves, on-resort stays at Quinta da Ria & Cima and at Monte Rei put you minutes from the first tee.
We match the base to your group’s priorities. A society that wants beach, bars and an easy stroll home leans one way; a group whose whole focus is maximum golf and minimum transfer leans another. Tell us which you are and we book accordingly — and we hold the rooms so you are not the one chasing availability.

Group rates, a free place for the organiser, and the option to be hosted
This is where bringing in a specialist pays for itself. We secure group rates across hotel, golf and transfers that an individual booker simply can’t, and on society trips the organiser very often plays free — your reward for doing the rounding-up. We handle the rooming list, the tee-time sequencing, the airport transfers and the inevitable late changes, so the admin stops being your problem.
If you’d rather not run anything on the ground at all, we also offer hosted and escorted group options — a Golf Planet representative to manage tee times, transfers and the day-to-day logistics so even the organiser is off duty for the week.
Everything is enquiry-based and quoted in pounds, with no flights bundled in unless you want them: we can arrange ATOL-protected flights as an add-on, or you book your own and we handle the ground. And whichever way you pay, Golf Planet Holidays is ATOL Protected and your money is held in trust with PTS until you have travelled — so the deposits you collect from your members are genuinely safe until the trip is done.

Frequently asked questions
How many players do you need for a society golf trip?
The Eastern Algarve works beautifully for societies of 12 to 24 players, which is the sweet spot for group rates and easy logistics from a single base. We can arrange smaller and larger parties too — just tell us your numbers when you enquire and we’ll price and plan around them.
Does the organiser really play for free?
On society group bookings the organiser very often goes free, as a thank-you for doing the legwork of gathering the players and the deposits. The exact arrangement depends on group size and the trip you choose, so it’s confirmed in your written quote before anyone commits.
Can someone come with us to run the trip on the ground?
Yes — we offer hosted and escorted group options, where a Golf Planet representative manages tee times, transfers and the daily logistics for you. That means even the organiser can switch off and simply play. Mention it when you enquire and we’ll include it in the quote.
What's protected when we book, and how do we pay?
Golf Planet Holidays is ATOL Protected and holds your money in trust with PTS until you’ve travelled, so members’ deposits are ring-fenced until the trip is complete. Everything is quoted and billed in GBP on an enquiry basis. Flights can be added as an ATOL-protected option, or you arrange your own and we handle the ground.
