The Algarve is the most complete golf week in Europe: more than 30 championship courses inside an hour of Faro airport, reliable year-round sunshine, and prices that make a US golf resort look eye-watering. Here is how to spend a perfect seven days.
Where to base yourself
Two resort hubs put almost everything within a short transfer. Dona Filipa in Vale do Lobo (from £579pp) sits on the doorstep of the famous Royal and Ocean courses, while Vila Gale Ampalius in Vilamoura (from £436pp) is walking distance to the marina and three Vilamoura layouts. On a budget, Penina (from £259pp) has its own Sir Henry Cotton championship course on site.
The day-by-day
- Day 1 — Arrive. Land at Faro, transfer 25–40 minutes, settle in, dinner by the marina.
- Day 2 — Vale do Lobo (Royal). The Algarve’s signature clifftop par 3 over the ravine — the most photographed hole in Portugal.
- Day 3 — Pinhal, Vilamoura. Classic pines-and-fairways golf, gentle enough to enjoy after a long flight week.
- Day 4 — Rest day. Old-town Lagos, the beaches, or a boat trip to the grottoes.
- Day 5 — Vale do Lobo (Ocean). The Royal’s underrated sibling, finishing along the cliffs.
- Day 6 — Penina Championship. A Henry Cotton design and former Portuguese Open host — flat, tree-lined and demanding.
- Day 7 — Depart. Morning round or beach, then home.
