2020 has not been a great year so far for people who have FOMO or Fear of Missing Out.
Even though for the first half of year we were all stuck at home, it appears those with FOMO were still feeling the pressure. Looking at social media images of friends practising their golf swing into that new net in the back garden or even worse, watching them over the garden fence, was not helping them cope with time away from the golf course.
Thankfully our favourite sport was one of the first to be released from lockdown in the middle of May. Since then golf in the UK has experienced a massive resurgence in popularity.
According to a report in The Golf Business, data gathered by The SMS Rounds Played Monitor from 125 golf courses in the UK has shown the number of rounds played in June 2020 was 70 per cent up compared to June 2019.
Unsurprisingly there was a huge surge in May post lockdown and June has proved the interest in golf has maintained its momentum as we enjoyed good summer weather and two balls became three and four balls.
As we all take tentative steps into the world of golf holidays, friends are enjoying getting together for a break. Whether they took advantage of the brief window to travel to France or are exploring the fantastic golf courses around the UK, sometimes away from the (well) beaten track.
Having played our own courses endlessly over the summer, it’s a pleasant change to explore a different set of fairways. Perhaps the best bit though is waking up to a sizzling full English breakfast prepared by someone else, who will also be doing the washing up!
