About Yvelines Golf Club
Yvelines Golf Club is ideal when you’re staying in Versailles. It’s an enjoyable way of escaping to the countryside for a nice round of parkland golf at about half the price of the more famous courses closer to the capital.
The 17th-century chateau clubhouse sets the tone for what is a grand woodland setting. The fairways are wide but you need to pay attention to the placing of the drive rather than the distance as it’s quite a strategic course with plenty of dog-legs. A nice course, suitable for a break between the big names.

Our take
Yvelines is the value play near Versailles, a strategic parkland at about half the price of the famous names closer to Paris.
- Serious golfersDistance off the tee matters less than where you put it, with a dozen water hazards shaping the strategy; the 8th and the closing 18th claim more cards than anything else.
- Higher handicapsBarely 70 metres of climb all round and generous fairways make this one of the kinder tests near Paris; most of the dozen water hazards can be avoided with a little thought.
- SocietiesHalf the green fee of the big-name Paris courses, flat enough that everyone walks, and wide fairways that keep a group of all abilities moving.
- CouplesA grand woodland setting with a 17th-century chateau for a clubhouse, and countryside calm within easy reach of Versailles. One of the nicer spots near Paris for an unhurried day.

What you are actually facing
The walk. Flat, and an easy walk — 68 metres of climb over the round.
The wind. The wind is usually south-westerly, averaging 12 km/h, gusting to 37. It is the club selection that catches people out, not the yardage.
The water. 12 hazards in play. Bring a few more balls than you think you need.
The design. Bill Baker.
The holes that will cost you. The 8th, the 18th and the 6th. The 8th is the one you will be talking about afterwards.
