About Wentworth Club East Golf Course, Surrey
ABOUT THE GOLF COURSE Wentworth Golf Club is home to three magnificent golf courses in one superlative location. The East and West courses is a Harry Colt design from the 1920s. The Edinburgh course is a collaboration between Gary Player, John Jacobs and Bernard Gallacher. It was opened in 1990. The East Course is the members’ favourite. Host to the Curtis Cup in 1932 and a forerunner of the Ryder Cup in 1926, the East is the quiet “brother” of the West but its quality is loud and clear. Colt’s overall design philosophy was that a golf course should give a player a variety of options in terms of shot selection; a characteristic that makes his golf courses challenging for the game’s best players, but at the same time enjoyable for the amateur golfer. To score well, you need accurate driving and precision shot-making into the well-bunkered greens; another classic Colt trademark. Position, not power, is the name of the game here. “When Harry Colt was invited to lay out the East, he was given 200 acres of some of the best Surrey heathland from which to work. His creation is in my opinion architecturally and aesthetically superior to the West Course in many ways.” – Bernard Gallacher. Follow in the footsteps of some of golf’s greatest champions when you enjoy a memorable day at Wentworth.
