• Serious golfersOld Tom's strategic bunkering asks you to plot from the tee rather than just avoid trouble, and the club is restoring that original thinking. The 10th and 11th, back to back, are where matches swing.
• Higher handicapsThe fairways are forgiving, which you will appreciate once the clifftop breeze starts shoving the ball around. Take an extra club, keep it under the wind, and there is a very playable course here.
• CouplesOne of only sixty six Royal clubs in the world, with cliff views over the town and a genuine sense of playing through golf's history. It makes a fine centrepiece for a few days on the Norfolk coast.
