• Higher handicapsWelling and McGinley built it to be playable rather than punishing, and it genuinely is. Flat walking, sensible carries, and the sloping greens are where the shots go, which is a far kinder way to lose them.
• Serious golfersLength counts for little here. The redesign asks you to pick lines around well-placed bunkers and water, then hold your nerve on greens with real slope. Good players who plot their way round will score, bombers often will not.
• CouplesThe rare big-name course where two players of very different standards enjoy the same round, since the design tests decision-making, not carry distance. An easy, level walk as well.
