ABOUT THE GOLF COURSE
Orleans Limere Golf Club is just south of the city of Orleans and is an enjoyable golf course. Weaving through the Sologne forest it tests all aspects of your game, with water, well-defended greens and tricky bunkers. Orleans Limere has hosted the French PGA on several occasions and remains a good layout. It’s a good American-type course in Loire and a confidence- building alternative to the tougher Les Aisses. Orleans Limere is a sister course to the nearby Donnery golf course.

Our take
When Les Aisses has roughed a group up, Orleans Limere is the round we send them to next: Robinson's layout through the Sologne forest flatters good golf without ever going soft.
- Serious golfersIt has hosted the French PGA and still asks the questions: eleven water hazards, well defended greens and tricky bunkering, with the 6th and 11th the two holes where good cards usually come unstuck.
- Higher handicapsThis is the confidence builder of the Loire. Barely 30 metres of climb all round, generous American-style shaping, and if you keep clear of the water you will score. Play it before Les Aisses, not after.
- SocietiesFlat enough that nobody needs a buggy, and it slots neatly into a Loire itinerary as the sister course to the tougher Les Aisses. The forest setting keeps the whole group happy whatever they shoot.

What you are actually facing
The walk. Flat, and an easy walk — 32 metres of climb over the round.
The wind. The wind is usually south-westerly, averaging 11 km/h, gusting to 39. It is the club selection that catches people out, not the yardage.
