• Serious golfersAt 6,831 yards the Lakes wants long straight driving, committed irons over the water and a putter that behaves. It is the sterner of the two courses and the one to play off the tips.
• Higher handicapsWater is the story on the Lakes course, it comes into play again and again, and trouble arrives early at the 2nd and 5th. Pack spare balls and the round is far more fun.
• SocietiesEverything a society weekend needs sits on site, two contrasting courses in the Lakes and Woodside, a par 3 for the evening shootout and the four star hotel right there for the debrief.
• Buddy tripsThe ground is so gentle, barely 15 metres of climb, that 36 holes in a day is entirely realistic. Play the Lakes in the morning while the group is fresh, then let Woodside settle the bets.
