Broadway Golf Club in The Cotswolds has the feel of an inland links with its rolling fairways and contoured greens. The par three fifth stands out as a signature hole with the contoured green some 100 feet below the tee. Across the 18 holes you will find natural and artificial hazards with the undulating fairways occasionally intersected by dry-stone walls. The golf course is on the path of a sheep walk down the centuries. Some older parts of the attractive landscape are registered with English Heritage as an ancient monument. You'll enjoy good food and a warm welcome in the clubhouse and pro shop.

Our take
An inland links in the Cotswolds, where a fresh breeze and McKenzie's contoured greens do most of the defending.
- Serious golfersThe contoured greens ask proper questions, and the 4th and 10th are where good cards go wrong. With over 150 metres of climb across the round, it plays longer than the card suggests.
- Higher handicapsDry-stone walls cut across some fairways and the fifth drops a hundred feet from tee to green. Commit to your club, avoid the handful of ponds, and there is a decent score out there.
- SocietiesA characterful day for southern England groups, with the sheep-walk history and dry-stone walls giving it a flavour of its own; the climb is honest but manageable, so most of the party will walk.
