History & heritage
Marrakech is a thousand-year-old imperial city, and it shows: the Koutoubia minaret, the labyrinth of the medina, the storytellers and snake-charmers of Jemaa el-Fnaa at dusk. Behind plain walls hide riads of carved cedar, zellij tilework and orange-tree courtyards — the craft tradition that gives Morocco its texture. The country sits at a cultural crossroads of Berber, Arab and Andalusian influence, with French widely spoken alongside Arabic and Tamazight. A round in the morning leaves the whole afternoon for the souks, the Majorelle gardens or simply mint tea on a rooftop as the call to prayer drifts across the rooftops.
