Stay & play — fromAbout The Eden at St Andrews Golf Course
St Andrews Eden is a very fine course in its own right and deserves to be played more often. Designed by Harry Colt you can play it as a warm up or warm down to one of the big name courses and you'll be happy with your choice.
- Buggies - Over 65 only unless with a medical certificate
- Trolleys
- Clubhouse - communal clubhouse for all courses, restaurant and bar
Our take
Of the St Andrews courses, the Eden is the one visitors underrate, a Harry Colt design that deserves better than warm-up billing.
- Serious golfersHarry Colt's greens are the point here; water crosses the course more often than visitors expect, and it is the 5th and the 14th where good cards usually come unstuck.
- Higher handicapsA flat round, barely 25 metres of climb, and a par 70 that gives you a chance. Buggies are for over-65s or medical certificates only, so expect to walk.
- Solo golfersEasy to slot in either side of a bigger name, and the communal clubhouse shared by all the St Andrews courses means a golfer travelling alone never eats alone after the round.

What you are actually facing
The walk. Flat, and an easy walk — 24 metres of climb over the round.
The wind. The wind is usually south-westerly, averaging 15 km/h, gusting to 55. It is the club selection that catches people out, not the yardage.
The water. 6 hazards in play. Bring a few more balls than you think you need.
The design. Harry Colt.
The holes that will cost you. The 5th, the 14th and the 4th. The 5th is the one you will be talking about afterwards.
