About Ploemeur Ocean Golf Club
Ploemeur Ocean is one of the best golf courses in the region with a terrific sea facing nine and a predominantly target-course design for the other nine. Pair a round here with a game at Saint Laurent for a golf holiday in Brittany to remember.
With a clever use of different grasses, streams and cunning bunkers, the links course at Ploemeur would make for a visual treat even without the Atlantic Ocean grabbing your attention. But don't let your mind stray too far...

Our take
Half of this course faces the sea and the other half plays as target golf, and both halves will find you out.
- Serious golfersTwo different exams in one round: the sea facing nine wants an extra club into the breeze, while the target nine punishes any approach without conviction. The 12th and the 14th are where good rounds go to die.
- Higher handicapsWith more than twenty water hazards and target holes that give you nowhere to bail out, ration the ambition and play for the middle of everything. The ocean nine is the reward, whatever the scorecard says.
- Buddy tripsPair it with Saint Laurent and you have the backbone of a south Brittany golf trip. The walking is flat all the way round, so nobody needs a buggy and nobody has an excuse.
Tell us who’s coming and how you like to play, and we’ll shape the right trip around you.
What you are actually facing
The walk. Flat, and an easy walk — 43 metres of climb over the round.
The wind. The wind is usually westerly, averaging 14 km/h, gusting to 47. It is the club selection that catches people out, not the yardage.
The water. 21 hazards in play. Bring a few more balls than you think you need.
The design. Macaulay and Quenouille.
The holes that will cost you. The 14th, the 12th and the 9th. The 14th is the one you will be talking about afterwards.
