About Pleneuf Val Andre Golf Club
Pleneuf Val Andre Golf Club in north Brittany mixes some brilliant links holes with some tough parkland holes and the wind can often add to the challenge. It is one of France's best modern courses.
Perched on a coastal site, Val Andre, designed by Alain Prat in 1992, sets out fairly gently and distance will help you early on, though your directional skills are severely tested over the excellent turn.
With the clubhouse in sight, the last few holes are shorter but tighter. The course is about 6500 yards off the very back tees and is mostly easy-walking. It is well worth the drive from Dinard or St Malo. Pleneuf Val Andre is a first-class test of golf and should be on the list to play wherever you’re staying in north Brittany.

Our take
Half links, half parkland on a coastal perch, Val Andre is rated among France's best modern courses, and the wind usually gets a say in your score.
- Serious golfersThe gentle opening is a loan, not a gift. Direction gets a thorough going over through the turn, and with barely any water on the course the sea wind is the real defence, so club up and trust it.
- Higher handicapsBank your score early while distance still helps, because the course tightens after the turn. It also climbs close to 140 metres over the round, more than the seaside setting suggests, so a buggy is no disgrace.
- Buddy tripsWorth building a north Brittany trip around: links holes and parkland in the same round, with the clubhouse in view over the closing stretch. The card says 6,500 yards; the breeze usually has other ideas.
