An underplayed 27 holes near the Ria Formosa reserve where narrow tree-lined fairways and genuine hills make the buggy a sensible call.

• Serious golfersNarrow tree-lined driving and tricky greens reward the player who plots a round, and the 8th on Corks and the 4th on Olives are where good cards tend to come unstuck. Underplayed for golf of this quality.
• Higher handicapsTake the buggy without a second thought, because there is close to 200 metres of climbing across the round and water on plenty of holes. Played conservatively from the tee it is still a very enjoyable day.
• SocietiesThree nines give a society room to rotate, and the clubhouse welcome at the end is genuinely warm. Budget for buggies across the group though, as the hills would wear down the walkers by the final nine.
