Nearly 200 years old, North Berwick is as traditional a golf links as you could wish for. With the 1st and the 18th in the centre of the town and the remaining 16 holes winding their way along the Firth of Forth, there are stunning views with North Sea vistas free on every hole!
In true Scottish style, the carefully-crafted greens and fairways encourage the brave whilst punishing the wayward.
- Buggies - Not permitted
- Trolleys - Manual and Electric are available, we can book these for you
- Clubhouse - You are guest for the day and may use the club's facilities
Our take
Few rounds feel as traditional as North Berwick, out of the town along the Firth of Forth and back again, with the sea in view on every single hole.
- Serious golfersThe greens encourage the brave line and punish everything else, and the wind off the Forth is the true defence, so take an extra club and flight it down. The 3rd and the 17th are the two that get talked about in the bar.
- CouplesStarting and finishing in the middle of town makes the day wonderfully simple, and the walk is part of the pleasure, barely a rise in it and the North Sea alongside for sixteen holes.
- Higher handicapsNo buggies allowed, though with almost no climb you will not miss one. What hurts is the wind and the water that keeps crossing your path, so budget for bogeys and enjoy the views in between.

What you are actually facing
The walk. Flat, and an easy walk — 11 metres of climb over the round.
The wind. The wind is usually south-westerly, averaging 17 km/h, gusting to 58. It is the club selection that catches people out, not the yardage.
The water. 11 hazards in play. Bring a few more balls than you think you need.
The design. Original 1832 layout; present shape supervised by Ben Sayers (1932).
The holes that will cost you. The 3rd, the 17th and the 2nd. The 3rd is the one you will be talking about afterwards.
