About Murcar Links Golf Club
Murcar is the “quiet course” of the Aberdeenshire coastline but approach it with caution nevertheless. Originally designed by Archie Simpson, this attractive course is located on a classic stretch of links land with huge sand dunes and undulating fairways with views over the North Sea.
Revised by James Braid, the cours's par four’s are the toughest with the short ones being particularly tricky – and even they aren’t short when the wind blows. Great fun.

Our take
Everyone hurries past Murcar for the bigger names up the road, which suits those who know it just fine.
- Serious golfersBraid sharpened Archie Simpson's original and the par fours carry the round, the short ones especially once the wind gets up. The walking is level; nothing else about it is gentle.
- Higher handicapsNo water anywhere and flat walking make it less frightening than the first look at those huge dunes suggests, though the undulating fairways hand you awkward stances all day.
- Buddy tripsThe smart second round on an Aberdeen trip: honest links through big dunes with views over the North Sea, and far less fuss than its neighbours.
