About La Freslonniere Golf Club
La Freslonniere golf club is the most accomplished and mature course around Rennes, in the middle of Brittany. The estate of La Freslonniere dates back to the 14th-century but the golf course is a more recent affair having opened in 1989.
Just 6300 yards with a par of 72, you may think that La Freslonniere is for the taking. But such is the shape of the fairways and the propensity of the doglegs, you shouldn't take any risks or par will be out of reach. There’s a fair amount of water to watch out for too. Don't be rash in your club selection and you’ll enjoy the scenic walk and clever design where a tactical game will always win the day.
For clever golf in a clubby setting, you won’t find much better in the northern half of France.

Our take
Short does not mean simple at La Freslonniere, where 6,300 yards of doglegs and shaped fairways around an old Breton estate punish anyone who gets greedy.
- Serious golfersThe doglegs decide your line before you swing and water turns up on hole after hole, so this is a day for the three wood. The 12th and 14th are the two to par and walk quietly away from.
- Higher handicapsFlat enough to walk without noticing and short on the card, but bring more balls than you think you need; the water is everywhere and it collects anything struck without conviction.
- CouplesThe most accomplished course around Rennes, set on an estate with roots in the 14th century. A gentle stroll and a civilised day's golf in the middle of Brittany rather than the centrepiece of a week.

What you are actually facing
The walk. Flat, and an easy walk — 44 metres of climb over the round.
The wind. The wind is usually south-westerly, averaging 12 km/h, gusting to 36. It is the club selection that catches people out, not the yardage.
The water. Water is very much in play across this course. Bring a few more balls than you think you need.
The holes that will cost you. The 12th, the 14th and the 10th. The 14th is the one you will be talking about afterwards.
