About Picciolo Etna Golf Club
Stay and play at Picciolo Etna Golf Club. Where else can you find as stunning a backdrop as Mount Etna, now a UNESCO World Heritage site. This was the first golf course set up on Sicily in 1989 and makes the most of the natural landscape. The 18 holes meander through ancient lava flows as you follow the immaculate fairways past oak trees, vineyards and hazelnut trees. The hazards are not too intimidating. This is holiday golf as it should be, it will put a smile on your face and a few points on your card.

Our take
Holiday golf across old lava flows beneath Mount Etna, hilly enough that the buggy is money well spent.
- Higher handicapsThe hazards here will not frighten anyone, which makes it a fine place to enjoy your golf. The catch is the climb, close to 300 metres over the round, so a buggy is the sensible call.
- Serious golfersDo not expect a championship examination. The sixth and seventh are where cards tend to wobble, but this is a course you play for the setting and the lava flow routing rather than the test.
- CouplesEtna on one side, vineyards and hazelnut groves on the other, and no pressure on the scorecard. A relaxed round in remarkable surroundings, with the rest of Sicily to explore afterwards.

What you are actually facing
The walk. Hilly — we would take a buggy. 291 metres of climb over eighteen holes.
The wind. The wind is usually north-westerly, averaging 9 km/h, gusting to 30. It is the club selection that catches people out, not the yardage.
The water. 3 hazards in play. Bring a few more balls than you think you need.
The design. Luigi Rota Caremoli.
The holes that will cost you. The 7th, the 6th and the 12th. The 7th is the one you will be talking about afterwards.
