About Dundonald Links
Dundonald Links is a golf course set for the modern game. The fairways are tight and undulating. As you'd expect of a course in the heart of Ayrshire, the rough should be avoided at all costs. Designed by the highly-respected architect Kyle Phillips, Dundonald Links is a good course with many holes to admire. It has hosted Open Qualifying and the Seniors British Open Championship.

Our take
Dundonald is the modern side of Ayrshire links golf, a Kyle Phillips design with tight, rumpled fairways and water threaded through much of the course.
- Serious golfersOpen Qualifying and the Senior Open came here for a reason. The fairways are tight, burns and ponds cut across a surprising number of holes, and cards have a habit of coming unstuck at the 5th and again at the 14th.
- Higher handicapsThe walking is easy, barely 30 metres of climb all round, but the rough punishes anything loose and there is water threaded through much of the course. Take the forward tees and a pocketful of spare balls.
- Buddy tripsNew two to six bedroom lodges are opening right on the course, so a group can stay yards from the first tee and build an Ayrshire trip around it. Ask us about availability.
Tell us who’s coming and how you like to play, and we’ll shape the right trip around you.
What you are actually facing
The walk. Flat, and an easy walk — 28 metres of climb over the round.
The wind. The wind is usually south-westerly, averaging 15 km/h, gusting to 62. It is the club selection that catches people out, not the yardage.
The water. 16 hazards in play. Bring a few more balls than you think you need.
The design. Kyle Phillips.
The holes that will cost you. The 14th, the 5th and the 11th. The 14th is the one you will be talking about afterwards.
