About Domaine de Roncemay Golf Club
In glorious isolation, Domaine de Roncemay is a boutique golf-hotel-spa-restaurant resort about 30 minutes north of Auxerre. The on-site golf course is ideal for a holiday where food and relaxation are just as important. Created by Jean Garaialde and Jeremy Pern, the American-style course crosses an ancient forest estate over 11 holes and opens up onto a plateau for seven links type holes, without the wind. An enjoyable and peaceful escape.

Our take
Golf shares billing with the spa and the restaurant at Roncemay, and that is precisely the point of the place.
- Serious golfersThe switch in character keeps it interesting: eleven holes cut through ancient forest, then seven open links style holes across a plateau. More design intrigue than the peaceful setting might suggest, even if it's not a championship test.
- Higher handicapsNot a metre of climb all round and the forest frames a clear target from most tees. Water is the one thing that bites here, so lay up where the card tells you and enjoy it.
- CouplesThis is the trip Roncemay was built for: golf in the morning, the spa and a long lunch after, and a quiet estate with nowhere you need to be.

What you are actually facing
The wind. The wind is usually south-westerly, averaging 11 km/h, gusting to 41. It is the club selection that catches people out, not the yardage.
The water. 18 hazards in play. Bring a few more balls than you think you need.
The design. Jeremy Pern and Jean Garaïalde.
