About Chalon-sur-Saone Golf Club
There are no water hazards at Golf de Chalon-sur-Saone but it will still test your game. The challenge lies in the quite narrow fairways and 60 plus bunkers. Opened in 1976 the course has matured nicely with a beautiful backdrop of more than 20,000 rosebushes and 200 types of trees. The clubhouse looks over the River Saone, be grateful it doesn't come into play
Located about 20 miles south of Beaune this golf course adds to the enjoyable portfolio of golf courses in this region. It's within easy driving distance of some of our hotels in the Burgundy countryside as well as the admired Golf du Chateau d’Avoise.

Our take
Sixty-plus bunkers and narrow fairways do the defending at Chalon-sur-Saone, because water barely comes into play.
- Higher handicapsAn easy walk, hardly a slope on it, and no scary carries over water. The narrow fairways punish the big miss, so a hybrid off the tee is no disgrace here.
- Serious golfersThe whole test is precision: hold the narrow fairways, stay clear of the sand and the scoring is there for you. The 8th and the 15th are the ones that most often wreck a tidy card.
- CouplesTwenty thousand rosebushes, a clubhouse looking over the Saone and Beaune's wine villages twenty miles north. If one of you rates the lunch above the golf, this is the right pick.

What you are actually facing
The walk. Flat, and an easy walk — 4 metres of climb over the round.
The wind. The wind is usually northerly, averaging 9 km/h, gusting to 41. It is the club selection that catches people out, not the yardage.
The water. 4 hazards in play. Bring a few more balls than you think you need.
The design. Michel Rio.
The holes that will cost you. The 8th, the 15th and the 11th. The 8th is the one you will be talking about afterwards.
