About Cabot Highlands
Formerly called Castle Stuart, the course has been conceived for the Highlands. It's a beacon reaching out to golfers throughout the world. A championship links course in a stunning location, overlooking the Moray Firth and well-known landmarks that are synonymous with Inverness and the Black Isle.
The course has in the past decade hosted the Scottish Open under the European Tour, and boasts one of the best putting green settings you will ever see. With Inverness just a few miles away this is great base for a golf holiday to remember. Enjoy a Highlands link tour playing golf at Nairn and Royal Dornoch.

Our take
Castle Stuart as was, and the new name has changed nothing that matters: this is still the Scottish Open venue ordinary golfers actually enjoy playing.
- Serious golfersParsinen and Hanse built genuine tournament golf without brutality. The 12th and the closing hole carry the real teeth, and the Firth wind decides how hard everything in between plays.
- Higher handicapsWater in play only twice all round leaves plenty of room to miss, though expect more rise and fall along the bluffs than the seaside setting suggests.
- CouplesA beautiful setting looking over the Moray Firth towards the Black Isle, and the putting green alone justifies the detour. A good day out even when the golf misbehaves.
Tell us who’s coming and how you like to play, and we’ll shape the right trip around you.
What you are actually facing
The walk. Flat, and an easy walk — 82 metres of climb over the round.
The wind. The wind is usually south-westerly, averaging 14 km/h, gusting to 64. It is the club selection that catches people out, not the yardage.
The water. 2 hazards in play. Bring a few more balls than you think you need.
The design. Mark Parsinen and Gil Hanse.
The holes that will cost you. The 12th, the 18th and the 2nd. The 12th is the one you will be talking about afterwards.
