Golf in Portugal goes from strength to strength. Whether you want to play at the tried and tested golf resorts or be a trendsetter at the latest hidden gems, we’re here to give you the inside track for your golf holiday in 2020.
Let’s start down the familiar road to Portimao. This is the home of Penina Hotel and Golf Resort, where the revered Sir Henry Cotton designed the original Algarve masterpiece. The resort continues to impress under new management while maintaining its place in golf history. You’re not far from Pestana Alto Golf and Country Club, where you can stay at the Pestana Dom Joao II and play the immaculate courses at the resort.
If you’re looking for something a bit special we’ve uncovered Monchique Resort, an elegant 5-star hotel, hidden in the middle of the mountains above Portimao, and built to minimise environmental impact. It is tranquillity personified and not far from the splendid courses at Morgado and Alamos.
If you prefer the hustle and bustle of city life, Lisbon is a must and the Ramada by Wyndham is ideal for a holiday combining sightseeing in this wonderful capital and outstanding golf. Either hire a car or we can arrange transfers to your choice of the outstanding courses including Estoril, Belas, Penha Longa and Oitavos.
Immerse yourself in golf at Praia d’el Rey, 50 minutes north of Lisbon. The two courses at this outstanding resort will test every aspect of your game. The original Praia d’el Rey sees the front nine taking you through an imposing pine forest with a contrasting Atlantic facing back nine. The sister links course, West Cliffs, has stormed the charts since it opened in 2017 to great acclaim. Stay at the resort at the comfortable five-star Marriott hotel or opt for the well-furnished and equipped self-catering apartments.
Last but definitely not least we’re taking you back down to the Algarve heading east to the beautiful coastal town of Tavira. The quality of the golf in this area is outstanding and accommodation at the central Maria Nova Lounge tremendous value for money. Splash out and play at the fabulous Monte Rei, mixing and matching it with Benamor, Quinta de Cima and Ria.
