Golf in Belek or Costa Del Sol? An Honest Comparison
Belek By The Golf Planet Holidays Team · Golf-travel specialists since 1981 · Published 2 June 2026 At a glance Which is better for golf, Belek or the Costa del Sol? Neither is simply ‘better’ — they suit different golfers. Belek, on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast, is a purpose-built resort enclave where world-class courses such as […]
Ask two well-travelled golfers where the Mediterranean is best played and you will start an argument that lasts a long lunch. One will conjure Belek: avenues of umbrella pines, fairways tended like lawns, and a string of resorts where the golf simply never stops. The other will reach for the Costa del Sol — the silver light over Marbella, courses tumbling between the mountains and the sea, and the easy pleasure of being home in time for dinner.
Both are wonderful, and they are not the same. After more than four decades arranging golf on both coasts, we think the honest answer is that each wins on different things. Here is how they truly compare — so you can choose the one that fits your golf, your group and the kind of week you want.
The golf and the courses
Belek is, in pure golfing terms, extraordinary. A compact strip of Turkey’s Antalya coast holds a remarkable density of championship courses, threaded through pine forest and sculpted to tournament standard. Resorts such as Regnum Carya Golf and Spa Resort, Cornelia Diamond, Gloria Golf Resort and Titanic Deluxe Golf Resort each bring their own layouts, and because everything sits within a short transfer, you can play a different acclaimed course every morning without ever feeling you have travelled. The conditioning is famously immaculate, and buggies are the norm — this is golf engineered for the keen player who wants quantity and quality in equal measure.
The Costa del Sol answers with variety and drama rather than density. Around Marbella, Sotogrande and Estepona, the courses change character as the land does — from the bold, sea-facing fairways near Fairmont La Hacienda Costa del Sol and Alcaidesa to the rolling, mountain-backed holes of La Quinta Golf and Country Club. The sense of place is stronger: you are aware of the Mediterranean on one side and the Sierra Blanca on the other. For golfers who like each round to feel distinct, the Costa rewards curiosity in a way the more uniform excellence of Belek does not.
Season, weather and when to go
This is where the two coasts most clearly diverge. Belek is at its sublime best in the shoulder seasons — spring from March to May, and autumn from September into November — when the air is warm but soft, the pines are fragrant and the courses are in peak condition. Midsummer is genuinely hot, better suited to early tee times and long afternoons by the pool than to thirty-six holes. Winter golf is playable but cooler, and not the region’s strong suit.
The Costa del Sol, by contrast, has built its reputation on a near year-round climate. It plays beautifully in spring and autumn too, but its real advantage is winter: from December to February, when much of Europe is closed for golf, Andalucía offers mild, bright days that make it the obvious choice for a January escape. If your golfing calendar lives in the colder months, the Costa simply gives you more of the year.
Where our specialists would stay in Belek
Atmosphere and the wider holiday
Belek is a resort world, and a polished one. The hotels are vast, generously all-inclusive five-stars — Maxx Royal Belek Golf Resort, Gloria Verde, Sueno Hotel Deluxe and Voyage Belek Golf and Spa among them — with sprawling spas, fine dining within the gates and golf academies on site. The rhythm is self-contained: you check in, and everything you need is within the resort. For a group that wants to focus entirely on golf and relaxation, with no decisions to make, it is close to ideal.
The Costa del Sol is more outward-looking. Here the holiday spills beyond the hotel — into Marbella’s old town, the yacht-lined quays of Puerto Banús, the beach clubs and the long tradition of good eating. Bases range from elegant beachfront addresses such as Amare Beach Hotel, Marbella and Hard Rock Hotel Marbella to the refined calm of Sotogrande at SO/ Sotogrande Spa & Golf Resort and Hotel Encinar de Sotogrande. It is the better fit when not everyone in the party plays, or when golf is one pleasure among several.
Which should you choose — and getting there
If your priority is the golf itself — a run of championship courses, faultless conditioning, buggies, and an all-inclusive base that lets a group of keen players give the week over entirely to the game — Belek is hard to beat, especially in spring and autumn. If you value variety, a stronger sense of place, a shorter flight and a holiday that flexes around non-golfers and winter dates, the Costa del Sol is the more versatile choice.
Practically, the Costa wins on access: flights from the UK to Málaga are short and frequent, making long weekends and winter breaks easy. Belek asks a little more travel, but rewards it with that singular concentration of golf. Whichever speaks to you, we arrange both as fully tailor-made trips — matching the courses, the hotel, the season and the pace to your group rather than fitting you to a package.

Frequently asked questions
Is Belek or the Costa del Sol better value for a tailor-made golf trip?
Both can be arranged beautifully across a range of budgets, with the Costa del Sol starting from £185pp and Belek from £549pp as the accessible entry to a premium, tailor-made week. Belek’s all-inclusive five-stars fold golf, dining and spa into one price, which many groups find effortless; the Costa offers more flexibility in how you build the trip. We price each to the standard and shape of holiday you want rather than to a fixed template.
How far in advance should I book, and is my money protected?
For the best courses and hotels in peak season — spring and autumn in Belek, and winter on the Costa del Sol — we suggest planning a few months ahead. As an established operator since 1981, Golf Planet Holidays is ATOL Protected, and your money is held securely in trust with PTS until you travel, so your tailor-made trip is safeguarded from the moment you book.
Can non-golfers enjoy either destination?
Yes, and this often tips the choice. The Costa del Sol is especially strong for mixed parties, with Marbella, Puerto Banús, beaches and spas all close at hand. Belek’s resorts cater superbly to non-golfers too, with extensive spas, pools and dining within the hotel — though the wider region is quieter. We tailor each itinerary so golfers and non-golfers alike have a full week.
Can I combine or compare both before deciding?
Absolutely. Many clients come to us undecided, and part of our role is to talk through how each coast fits your group, your dates and your golf before recommending one. We can also build single-centre or multi-resort itineraries within either destination, so the final trip reflects exactly what you want from the week.
