Golf Holidays for Couples in Ireland

Ireland

There’s a particular kind of holiday that works for two people who don’t share every hobby — one where the golfer wakes to the sea air at Doonbeg or Lahinch, and their partner has the morning entirely, beautifully, to themselves. A spa treatment. A long lunch by the water. A walk along the Wild Atlantic Way with nowhere to be. Ireland does this better than almost anywhere: the courses are legendary, but the in-between — the hotels, the food, the slow evenings — is what you’ll both remember.

At Golf Planet Holidays we’ve been arranging tailor-made golf trips since 1981, and couples’ breaks are some of our favourites to build because they’re never one-size-fits-all. Whether one of you plays or you both do, we shape the days around the two of you. Romantic, effortless, and from just £165 per person — with every detail handled so you can simply enjoy each other and the place.

The golf: links worth crossing the sea for

Ireland’s south-west is one of golf’s true heartlands, and the courses on our doorstep here are the names players travel a lifetime to tick off. Doonbeg — a Greg Norman links draped over the Clare dunes — and the timeless Lahinch a few miles up the coast give you two of the most atmospheric rounds in the game within easy reach of each other. Push a little further and there’s Ballybunion, routinely ranked among the finest links anywhere on earth, its fairways tumbling toward the Atlantic.

Prefer your golf with a touch of grandeur? Dromoland Castle offers a parkland round through a historic 450-acre estate, while Galway Golf Club gives you sweeping bay views and a friendly, walkable test that’s perfect for a relaxed morning. We’ll match the courses to how seriously you take your golf — championship links for the purist, or a gentler rota if this is meant to be unhurried.

For the partner: spa, sea and slow mornings

This is where an Ireland couples’ break earns its name. While one of you is out on the links, the other isn’t left waiting around — there’s a genuine second holiday running in parallel. The G Hotel in Galway is a design-led retreat with one of the most indulgent spas in the west of Ireland, made for an unhurried morning of treatments and tea. The Lodge at Doonbeg sits right on the wild Clare coastline, so beach walks, sea views and that famous Atlantic light are simply outside the door. And The Ardilaun Hotel, set in mature gardens just outside Galway city, puts food, shops and the buzz of Galway’s lanes within easy reach.

Wine and long lunches, a quiet swim, an afternoon wandering Galway’s galleries and music-filled streets — we build the non-golf half of the trip with as much care as the tee-times, so both of you come home feeling you had your kind of holiday.

Where our specialists would stay in Ireland

Booked your way — and protected every step

Every trip we arrange is tailor-made and enquiry-based: you tell us roughly what you’d love, and we come back with a considered plan rather than a fixed package. That means we can dial the golf up or down, swap a links day for a spa day, add a romantic dinner or a private transfer, and shape the whole thing around the two of you.

It’s also fully protected. Golf Planet Holidays is ATOL Protected, and your money is held securely in trust with PTS until you’ve actually travelled — so the only thing you need to think about is each other. For couples joining us from the US, the strength of the dollar against the pound often makes Ireland especially good value right now, and we can arrange flights as an ATOL-protected add-on so your whole journey is covered under one booking.

Prefer company? Hosted and escorted options

While couples’ breaks are usually private and self-paced, some pairs love the social side of golf travel. If that’s you, we also run hosted and escorted group tours through the same iconic Irish venues — a relaxed way to meet fellow golfers, share a few rounds at courses like Lahinch and Ballybunion, and let an experienced host handle the logistics while you enjoy the craic. Mention it when you enquire and we’ll tell you what’s coming up, or build a private group trip just for you and friends.

Frequently asked questions

Which Irish courses can we play on a couples' break?

Our Ireland couples’ breaks are built around a superb collection of courses including Doonbeg, Lahinch, Ballybunion, Dromoland Castle and Galway Golf Club. You can play one as a highlight or string several together — we’ll advise on a rota that suits your handicap, pace and how much time you’d like to spend off the course together.

Where would we stay?

We work with three standout properties for couples: The Lodge at Doonbeg on the wild Clare coast, the design-led G Hotel with its acclaimed spa in Galway, and The Ardilaun Hotel in its leafy gardens near Galway city. Each suits a slightly different mood — coastal and dramatic, indulgent and stylish, or classic and central — and we’ll match it to the trip you have in mind.

What does From £165 per person include, and is my money safe?

From £165 per person is the starting point for a tailor-made couples’ break, priced in GBP, with the final cost shaped by your chosen hotel, number of rounds, season and any extras like spa days or transfers. Golf Planet Holidays is ATOL Protected and your payment is held in trust with PTS until you have travelled, so your booking is secure from the moment you confirm.

Can you arrange flights, and is Ireland good value from the US?

Yes — flights can be added as an ATOL-protected element so your whole trip sits under one protected booking. For US couples in particular, favourable exchange rates often make an Irish golf-and-spa break excellent value, and we’ll handle the routing, transfers and tee-times so it all arrives effortlessly.
