There’s nothing quite like the excitement of planning your next golf getaway – the thought of sunshine, perfectly manicured fairways, and a well-earned drink at the 19th hole. But before you grab your clubs and start packing, a little preparation can make all the difference between a good trip and a great one.

At Golf Planet Holidays, we know that a bit of planning upfront can save a lot of stress later on. So, whether you’re heading abroad with friends or enjoying a weekend away closer to home, here are a few key things to consider before you book your next golf break.

1. Dates. Have a clear idea when you want to travel and make sure these dates work with your fellow golf holiday travellers. If you can be flexible by a day or two it can be helpful, particularly when looking at flight prices.

2. Golf Club Diary. If you are a club member check the calendar as you don’t want to miss your chance to be on the honours board! And if you are an avid golf watcher clear out the dates for The Open and The Masters.

3. Budget. Have a clear idea how much you want to spend and if you are travelling with friends establish the range people are happy to consider. At Golf Planet Holidays we aim to give you a clear price with no hidden extras.

4. Fly or drive? Driving gives you a great deal more freedom and of course you can throw everything and the kitchen sink in the car. However, ask your group who is willing to drive and what vehicle they have. Minis aren’t too suitable for golf holidays. Flights can take you more quickly to sunnier climes, particularly important in the winter months.

5. All inclusive or bed and breakfast? All inclusive is ideal if you want to avoid a big credit card bill after your holiday. But if you like to try local restaurants stick with the morning only option. We can always advise on nearby dining options and often book ahead for you.

6. Extras. Buggies, car parking spaces, single rooms. At Golf Planet Holidays we can help you with these. Some golf resorts include buggies in the green fee which can keep the costs straightforward.

7. Check your passport expiry date and holiday insurance. The ideal policy starts the day you book your holiday.

8. Book again! If you want to return it’s a good plan to rebook as soon as you can. Many of our resorts often early booking discounts and flights are often cheaper booked further ahead.
