With the clocks going back this weekend, we are all seeking extra Vitamin D. How far do you need to travel to get a blast of winter sunshine? Well, the good news is that four hours will do it. An early morning flight to the Canary Islands the four-star guarantees you a place on a sun lounger mid afternoon. And a spot on the first tee the next morning.

These beautiful islands, governed by Spain, replete with golf courses lie to the west of Africa on the same timeline as the UK.

Which island to pick?

At Golf Planet Holidays we focus on three islands, Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura where there are direct flights from the UK. To get away from it all, La Gomera, a ferry ride from Tenerife, is the ultimate play and stay destination.

The Canary Islands enjoy an average of 2,900 hours of sunshine each year and very little rain. The coastal areas tend to be the warmer parts and once you wind your way up into the mountains you might be in need of a cardigan as you explore the villages or volcanoes.

In Gran Canaria we work closely with the popular Lopesan hotel group, a cluster of hotels in Meloneras, about 45 minutes from the airport. Your private transfer takes you to the five-star hotel of your choice, our clients focus on the more golf orientated Villa del Conde or Costa Meloneras.

Both hotels provide shuttles to the partner golf courses at Meloneras, Las Maspalomas or Anfi Tauro. Meloneras and Las Maspalomas are minutes away so you can grab a taxi if you prefer.

These three golf courses provide plenty of challenge for keen golfers but you can head to Salobre or Las Palmas if variety is the spice of your life.

Villa del Conde is the quieter option of the two hotels and ideal for couples. If you like a bit of a buzz Costa Meloneras has plenty to offer with a large selection of pools, entertainment and dining areas.
