Golf Holidays Mallorca

Golf in Mallorca is surprisingly good with many excellent courses. The Arabella Sheraton Golf Hotel and the Castillo Hotel Son Vida, members of The Luxury Collection, are two fine Spa hotels with three courses on-site: Son Vida, Son Muntaner and Son Quint.

Golf Breaks Mallorca

The Son Caliu Hotel in Palma Nova represents excellent value and is ideally situated close to Puerto Portals and Palma. For groups of golfers the Iberostar Suite Hotel Jardin del Sol is perfect and the H10 Punta Negra or Hotel Bendinat, fine choices for couples looking for a quiet break.
The Mallorcan golf courses offer a variety of style and standards, the holiday courses of Poniente, Real Bendinat, Santa Ponsa and Capdepera will appeal to all golfers and the gems of Alcanada, Golf Park Mallorca, Son Gual and Pula are must plays for serious golfers.
Mallorca is back on the A list of golf destinations – from easy-to-book package holidays at one hotel to customised luxury holidays at de luxe hotels and a variety of courses. Golf tourism is increasingly competitive: no hotel and no golf course can trade on past glories – it’s how the hotel and the course are today that counts with the discerning golfer and with us at GolfPlanet Holidays. And Mallorca is marvellous. For the one-hotel golf break, let’s introduce you to the Castillo Son Vida, just a few kilometres from Palma, the capital of the island. The hotel is a stylish five-star place, with two restaurants (plus two more in the adjacent Arabella Sheraton) and three courses (Son Vida, Son Muntaner and Son Quint) within range of the free shuttle service. Unless you plan to tour the island, skip the car hire; use taxis to and from the airport and the shuttle between the courses. And now we present a two-part Mallorca golf holiday for those with a bit more time to spare – five days at Castillo Son Vida followed by (or preceded by) four days in the north of the island, based near Puerto Pollensa at the Son Brull Hotel and Spa, a beautifully-restored 18th century monastery with just about every modern comfort.. Let’s make the first stop at Son Gual (also known as GolfMallorca), 12 kilometres to the west of Palma. Son Gual is No 1 in Mallorca for customer service, according a 2013 survey. Then we drive on to Son Brull for four nights and a couple of days’golf at Alcanada (No 2 in the same survey). With the Mediterranean on one side and mountains on the other, Robert Trent Jones has created a stunning course winding through groves of pines and olive trees. One German magazine has called it the best course in Europe (we wouldn’t go quite that far – but it’s a great place to play). Finally, on the way back from Son Brull to Palma we go to the west coast for Canyamel (No 3 in the survey), a very natural course which the PGA European Tour reckons to be suitable for one of its events.Places to go to in Mallorca Restaurants The Room, on the renovated fishermen’s wharf in Palma, The Room offers tasty food in a cosy setting. Simply Fosh – Michelin starred, this is Mediterranean cuisine at its finest featuring local produce as much as possible. Great value too. Palma. Drinks Opio Bar – dress up for this trendy bar features the latest music and excellent mojitos. Visit Drive under an hour from Palma to Arta for its incredible caves with piped classical music. Majestic.

Palma - A wonderful city in which to just wander around, but it also has a number of monuments that you should be sure to visit…

The Cathedral- With its stained-glass windows, the gothic cathedral is the best known landmark of the city. It dominates the waterfront and backs onto the oldest part of the city where churches of medieval, gothic and baroque periods are found along with Renaissance style buildings (like the City Hall) and stately homes with beautiful patios.

The Palau de l'Almudaina - Stands opposite the cathedral entrance. L'Almudaina used to be the palace of the Moorish governors and later of the Mallorcan Kings.

The Castell de Bellver – This is a beautiful and well-preserved fortress dating back to the 14th-Century. It is located west of the city centre, on the top of a wooded hill and has spectacular views over Palma Bay.

Guided tours – There are guided tours through the old quarter of Palma featuring Palma and the sea, the Jewish Quarter, The "las Capuchinas" Convent and Modernist Palma. There are also tours of the “patios”; courtyards of the stately homes of the old quarter.

The fiestas - Apart from the festivities shared with the rest of Spain such as Holy Week or Christmas, Mallorca has its own. Although each festival is different, they all have music, dancing, traditional costume and, in many cases, bonfires or fireworks:

January 19: the Revetlla de Sant Sebastià (the patron saint of Palma) with bonfires, music and dancing

February Carnival: big fancy dress parades along the main streets of Palma.

June 23: the Sant Joan festival celebrates the coming of summer with bonfires on the beach or fireworks and dimonis (people dressed up as the devil) in the city.

Museums and Art Galleries - Palma has a good selection of museums and art galleries which exhibit works by both international and local artists from all periods:

The Museu d'Art Espanyol Contemporani (Spanish Contemporary Art museum), has works by Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí, and other 20th-Century Spanish artists.

Es Baluard is located in the southwest corner of the old Reniassance city wall. With a spectacular view over Palma Bay, Palma’s newest museum houses works by Cezanne, Picasso, Miró and Barceló along with temporary exhibitions.

The Museu de Mallorca (Mallorca Museum) is an impressive museum relating the history of Palma through the ages and displays wonderful archeological findings.

The coast - Mallorca offers a wide variety of beaches: sandy beaches such as Es Trenc on the south coast of the island or the Formentor beach in the north; small coves on the rocky northen coast like Cala Deià or resorts like S'Arenal only 10 kilometres away from Palma.

The Countryside - Mallorca offers some beautiful one-day excursions to those looking for a day away from Palma. One of the most popular routes follows the imposing mountain range along the island's west coast, the Serra de Tramuntana. With its peaks, sea cliffs, valleys of olive and orange groves and beautiful ancient villages like Valldemossa and Deià, the Serra de Tramuntana is an unmissable landmark.

The Markets - Nearly all towns on the island have weekly markets where animals, Mallorcan food, products, artcrafts, etc. are found.  One of the most popular markets is the one held on Sundays from 8am to 2pm in Santa Maria (15 km from Palma). Alcúdia (50 km) and Sa Pobla (40 km) also have their markets on Sunday mornings.Sineu (30 km) has a wonderful market on Wednesdays.

The Drach Caves - Situated on the eastern coast of Majorca, the Drach caves are one of the most important tourist attractions. Inside the caves is a large subterranean lake called Martel Lake, which is considered to be one of the biggest subterranean lakes in the world. Lakeside, classical concerts are performed with pieces of Caballero, Chopin, Offenbach...

Caves Of Hams - The special location of these caves make them one of the most spectacular venues on the island.   The Hams' Caves are famous for their particular tree-shaped structure and their marvellous underground lake, where an extraordinary modern “sound and light” show takes place.
